Sunday Mornings

What to expect

At 11:00 every Sunday morning, we gather together in our sanctuary to pray, to sing, and to hear the words of God.  Our services usually last around an hour and are guided by worship leaders from among our own congregation.

We most often sing hymns - traditional or contemporary - from our Mennonite Hymnals.  Our talented piano accompanist, Elsie Wiebe, leads our singing most weeks.  Occasionally we have other musicians and music teams from our congregation providing the accompaniment to our congregational singing.

The reading of scripture plays a fundamental role in our worship of God.  To guide us in our reading of scripture, we usually follow the lectionary through the majority of the year.  Lay readers will often read a Psalm, a gospel reading, and a reading from a New Testament epistle or the Old Testament.

The sermon, based on the scripture reading, will usually be provided by our pastor, Caleb Kowalko.  But other members of our congregation are empowered to preach the word.  Guest preachers often join us from other congregations, traditions or from Christian agencies doing the work of God in the world.  Regularly, though not every week, we also partake together in Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, during our time of worship.

We seek to make our worship services a child-friendly time and space.  The rustling of parents and children is nothing to be ashamed of, and is welcome in our sanctuary.  Though, a nursery overlooking the sanctuary can be a place where parents of tiny ones feel more comfortable.

And on the last Sunday of each month, immediately following our service, we take some time to sit together and either share a potluck meal or just some coffee and baked goods.  It is a good time to casually connect and share a bit more of our lives with each other and remember the ministry of Jesus around the table with people of all walks of life.
